A View from the Top – The Chairman’s Blog

Dear all

Just a gentle reminder that the cricket season has now started!

First, I think you must all understand just how much work goes on behind the scenes every week to ensure we get two teams out.

Last weekend the captains had a particularly difficult weekend picking sides, which for the 1st weekend of the season is not a great start. As it happened the 2nd XI game was ultimately called off due to an issue Stone CC had with their ground. Though I understand that Tom Shearman and Ben Pitman were struggling for numbers and Pete Wallis had to also mix things around with his players.

Please remember that 90% of you are playing members at this club. We have over 25 people signed on and paid up as playing members yet last week we could only get to around 15 available – hopefully it was just early season unavailability!

The captains need your full support this weekend as there is an Away game for the 1st XI and a Home game for the 2nds – please make every effort to make yourself available, especially while the sun is out!

I would also like to say a special thanks to 3 players who made a tremendous effort to play for the 1st XI last week. Fred Gardner made a long round trip from Leeds to play in the season opener, Dave Gordon finished work at 1pm and raced to the ground from Bristol to play and Pete Raphael also made a huge effort to also get back from Bristol (whilst looking after kids!) to play in the season opener. A great effort by all 3 and well done to the 1st team on their win.

The captains are texting around and we hope that we can get 2 good sides out this weekend!
