Top order collapse from the 2s

Minchinhampton 2nd XI finally got their season underway away to Charfield 2nds. New skippers Tom Shearman and Ben Pitman had a new look side out with 3 debutants. Bowling first skipper Pitman led from the front dismissing both openers. A solid bowling performance saw wickets shared amongst Pitman, Hitchcroft, Wood, Shearman and Patient. However Extras with 33 top scored as Charfield reached 114 off their 40 overs. In reply Minchs youthful top order struggled and slipped to 15 for 5. A steady head in Nick Hitchcroft came in at 6 but wickets fell regularly. However Ben Pitman at 10 dug in and with Hitchcroft dragged Minch back to 60. When Hitchcroft went for 22 number 11 Nick Mills added 17 as Minch crept closer. But the last wicket fell at 92 and Minch 22 runs short, however a valiant comeback from the early innings collapse.
