Chairman Mike Waring on the success of Sunday’s Family Day & Tony Smith Memorial Game
What a tremendous effort by all concerned on Sunday to make the inaugural Minch CC Family Day such an enjoyable and well attended event. It was also a very fitting occasion for the club to receive the bench in memory of our long standing player and colleague, the late Tony Smith. As I mentioned on the day, Tony served this club admirably for some 40 years and his family were keen that we should receive a permanent memory of Tony with the bench which will take pride of place on our balcony.
Tony’s son Andy also donated his Dad’s Minch cap to the Club which will be retired to a special peg we will put up in the pavilion. His daughter Toni has been very supportive of the decision to purchase and present the bench and I know she and the family will be delighted that the memory of her Dad will live on in Minch cricket circles.
Alex has generously thanked everyone personally for their efforts in advance and on the day to make it successful. We should not spare his modesty in thanking him for his efforts. He pioneered the idea back in the dark days of winter and to see it come to fruition so splendidly is tremendous credit to his perseverance and planning. On this occasion I can honestly say, “Well done my son!”
Thanks also to Avening & Cherrington for joining in the spirit so admirably. It was great to see more than a few friendly faces who we know through connections with both clubs and the 20/20 was played in great spirit. Already there is talk of doing it all again next year but beforehand don’t forget we have a number of social dates in the diary for this year. Please give them your support. Thanks to everyone again. Our club is taking shape really well thanks to some great contributions from a wider circle of players and supporters. It is good to see!
