The Minchinhampton squad of under 10’s experienced a highly enjoyable morning in the sun on the famous Cheltenham College ground have been invited to participate in The Hamish Marshall under 10’s Quik Cricket event.

One of only 8 teams invited from around Gloucestershire, the Minch lads played two games, both of which they won in some style.  Groups were allocated a county player as their ‘coach’ and we were lucky enough to have Hamish himself who passed on tips and encouraged both sides when standing at slip during the games.  Three of Minch’s Saturday first team – Alex and Jaime Waring and Pete Wallis – were there ‘pitch side’ to help the boys and it was noted that they (the youngsters) really enjoyed working with the senior players.  After all – we are hoping in a few years’ time that the current under 10’s will be playing in the senior side!

There was a bowling competition to complete the morning and Minch’s Louis Southgate won his club prize of a signed Hamish Marshall mini bat and wind ball. He then went on the final which was played on the main county square and although he didn’t was highly commended by Steve Silk.

Steve is the GCB Chairman and was very complimentary about the Minch presence.  Alex Waring was also particularly impressed when one of our lads asked him if he’d played with Hamish very often. Dream on Alex!

Thanks to the Mum’s and Dads who were so supportive on the day.  Playing at events such as this is where we want the club to be and judging by the talent on display the future looks bright for Minch cricket.
