On a sunny hot day Minchinhampton 2nd’s played host to Cam 4th’s, with a match pitting first against second. Minch Skipper Ben Pitman again lost the toss, which saw the hosts batting first.
John Creedon & Rich Scott opened up and John was scoring at a good rate before he was trapped in front by Matt Rose for 18, next man in Ollie Cooper played some powerful shots but also fell victim to the same bowler when he was bowled by a slower ball beauty for 34. Matt Rose bowled a very fine 10 overs and was the pick of the bowlers and would go on and claim figures of 2-32.
At this point Simon Penn joined Scott and the game quickly moved in Minchinhampton’s favour, as they added 158 from just 14 overs, they passed their 50’s in consecutive overs, Penn timing the ball really well and Scott again building from a strong start before adjudged LBW for 86. Penn went on to make an excellent 100 (his second of the season) before finally being caught out for 116. Will Naish kept the scorecard moving latterly with 29 steering the team to 299 from the full compliment of 40 overs.
Cam set after the Minchinhampton total and any hope of victory soon came to an end as Nick Hitchcroft who bowled a great line throughout removed four of the top order, two of these wickets were caught by Will Fortune, who had another good day behind the stumps. Hitchcroft finished with 4-9 from his 10 overs and would have had 5 wickets but for a not too difficult missed caught and bowled chance.
Cam’s resistance came in the form of skipper Steve Collard who would go on to carry his bat for 75 playing shots all around the wicket in his total, but at the other end wickets continued to fall Pitman, Wood & Chris Davies (who produced his best bowling of the season to claim 3-16) all claiming wickets of the visitors. Collard saw the visitors passed 125 and apart from him only Danny Rose at No 3 made double figures for Cam with 13.
The final question was whether Minchinhampton could claim the last wicket. Reaching the last over, the ball was thrown to Ollie Cooper who obliged by moving Rose (snr) with just 2 balls to spare to extend their unbeaten season to 12 wins.
The game was played with a really good spirit between both teams.
