Minch U11s travelled to Hawkesbury for the last match of the season and the opportunity to be crowned league champions.
Billy Payne won the toss and decided to put the host into bat.
Tom (Dangerous) Dangerfield opened with some ferocious bowling, intimidating the opposition by taking a wicket in his first over.
Alfie Nicholls and Lyla Starkey were equally on fire, claiming 2 wickets a piece in as many overs, one of which was the result of an heroic diving catch from Harry (Stretch) Cowan at square leg.
Billy kept their run rate down with the first maiden over of the game, whilst Harry and James (Razor) Sharpe took a wicket each, the most spectacular of which was a lightening quick catch off the bat by Katie (the Cat) Harbord keeping wicket.
With some clever fielding strategy, minimising the opportunities for overthrows, Hawkesbury were restricted to 133 for 7 off 16 overs.
With an ambitious run rate of 9 runs an over set to win – the 2 Toms; Dangerous and Daniell opened the account for Minch, with a score 10 and 12 respectively.
The pace was then quickened by the follow-on pairing of Lyla and Alfie, who without loss of a wicket racked up an impressive 21.
Next up was ‘smash everything – run everything’ pairing of Charlie (the Hardman) Hardaker and Billy (Wacker) Payne, the latter of which, despite losing a wicket, notched up 7 fours in 4 overs, whilst Charlie took the opportunity for some cleverly placed singles.
Some extremely audacious running between the wicket by Harry, The Cat Harbord and Razor Sharpe kept the run rate ticking over to the end.
Final score for Minch U11s – 173 for 5.
