Minch took the Commoners trophy for a fifth time on a sunny if blustery day at the Brimpsfield ground.

The first ’round robin’ league game didn’t go the plan – losing to The Commoners – but in the second against The Prince Albert, Jaime Waring top scored – for the competition – with a massive 77 runs, including (7 or 8 sixes – we lost count!) a number of which landed in the road.

Next up were UWE Venturers and a chance for Simon Penn to show his prowess with the bat, also hitting 50 plus.  The bowling and fielding were excellent also, the highlight of the day being Jaime Waring’s one handed catch on the boundary.  Even the oppo batsman congratulated him!

So to the final.  We were asked to bowl and Commoners soon found themselves at 38-4, excellent bowling from Matt Hole and Jack Cartledge removing the hosts middle order.  They ended on a below par 65 but spice was added to the game with Jaime Waring going first ball in the Minch reply.  Step up our man Penn with some mighty hitting including the biggest six of the day.  But a collapse followed and with two balls to go in the final over we needed three.  An over height full toss was obligingly served up and Tom Carpenter flicked it for four.  Job done!
