The 1st XI came out of the starting blocks with an 87-run victory over a youthful Gloucester 2nd XI side. Batting first at Stuart Fields, Minchinhampton put on an impressive 240 for 6 off their 40 overs, in the first competitive fixture on the newly refurbished square. The ever-talented Taylor Williams contributed a scintillating 74 before falling LBW, supported by a brilliant 54 on debut from Jim Gant and a characteristically swashbuckling 37 from Steve Rogers to top-up the total. In return, Gloucester never really got going, Matt Hole allowing only 9 runs from his 8 overs opening the bowling, and Jaime Waring contributing 3 wickets. Well done to John Roe in his first match as 1st XI captain and the rest of the team, who find themselves 3rd place in GCCL Division 5.

The 2nd XI unfortunately didn’t have as enjoyable an afternoon in Tetbury against their 2nd XI, coming second by 138 runs. Tetbury hit 305 with two centurions, the best of the Minchinhampton bowling performances being Rich Scott with 60-1 from his ten overs. In response, Minch made it to 167 all out in the 39th over, Rich Scott again contributing superbly with 48, alongside Simon Penn with 38 and John Wood with 36. We go again!
